Growing out of the prospect of a deluxe edition of this year’s ‘Eusexua’, FKA Twigs’ fourth LP is about digging deeper. Instead of throwing a few extra tracks on streaming services we have ‘Eusexua Afterglow’, an avant-pop electronic record packed with dance anthems, picking up from where its predecessor left off with its celebration of the underground rave scene in Prague.

FKA Twigs beautifully demonstrates her genre-blending skills here, with tracks such as Touch A Girl and Lost All My Friends offering steady-tempoed art-pop, while Hard and Predictable Girl serve up punchy beats, heavy basslines and processed vocals. Held together by her shapeshifting aesthetic, somehow they all work together.

Love Crimes opens meekly before transitioning smoothly into a bouncing trance beat. You can feel your mind and body connecting as it progresses, its fast rhythm building into an explosive start. It sounds like something you might have found on Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’ last summer — no small feat.

Immediately in its wake, though, Slushy misses the mark. The vision is clear — pulling together spacious ambient moments with clattering drum and bass — but the execution is incoherent and a tad messy, highlighting the risks of smashing styles together.

Thankfully, Wild and Alone, featuring PinkPantheress, is more effective. Slightly more stripped back then the rest of ‘Eusexua Afterglow’, its lyrics are simple but effective as they revolve around unbreakable devotion: “But if you gave it up, it all / I’d love you if you were nobody.” It has Twigs’ vocals centre stage, demonstrating how effective they can be when she wants to showcase their full breadth, and her interplay with PinkPantheress is a standout.
