Manchester Orchestra Drummer Tim Very Dies Aged 42

Monday, 16 February 2026 Written by Jon Stickler

Manchester Orchestra drummer Tim Very has died aged 42.

The Atlanta-based band shared the sad news in a statement posted to social media on Saturday (February 14), revealing that Very passed away suddenly:

"The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very. The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life. We’ve all been dreading sharing this news as we are all still in absolute disbelief.

"Tim was instantly likeable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infectious and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged. His humor and energy were the very foundation that held together the entire MO universe. Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family.

"He had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice. Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too.

"The only thing that Tim loved more than creating music was being with his family. You’d be pressed to find a more joyful dad.

"We love you Tim, thank you for loving us. You are a force of positivity that will be a constant presence in the rest of our days."

Very started playing drums as a teenager in Pensacola, Florida, having been inspired by Dave Grohl and wanting to learn to play Nirvana songs.

He joined Manchester Orchestra in 2011, replacing Jeremiah Edmond, and played his first show with the band in London during their tour supporting the album 'Simple Math', released earlier that year.

He went on to become the band's longest-serving drummer, appearing on their past three studio albums: 2013's 'Cope', 2017's 'A Black Mile to the Surface', and 2021's 'The Million Masks of God'.

The band released their latest EP, 'The Valley of Vision', in 2023, and are set to put out a live album, 'Union Chapel (London, England)', on March 20 via Loma Vista Recordings, recorded during their sold-out three night residency at the historic venue in 2023.
