Deep Purple have announced a new album.
Built on the drive and energy that shaped the British rock legends' early work, the follow-up to 2024's '=1' is titled 'SPLAT!' and will arrive on July 3 via earMUSIC. It's described as their heaviest album in years and was recorded with the band playing live together in the studio, reuniting them with longtime collaborator and super-producer Bob Ezrin, who also helmed its predecessor. Frontman Ian Gillan said:
“Where we are now with this incarnation of Deep Purple feels very much like a very ‘now’ version of Deep Purple as it was in the seventies.
"I have to say, now we are very much back in with material that is compatible with ‘Highway Star’, ‘Smoke on the Water’, ‘Lazy’ – the dynamics, the balance, and the fun of the music we made from ‘69 to ‘73. Deep Purple is in a great place right now."
Shaped by an idea from Gillan, the album sees the end as an opportunity for change, not as something destructive. Its full concept will be revealed in the weeks leading up to its release. The band sum it up as, "music for the end of humanity (...but not as grim as it may seem)."
Deep Purple, completed by bassist Roger Glover, drummer Ian Paice, keyboardist Don Airey and guitarist Simon McBride, will continue their busy 2026 schedule with European and North American tour dates this summer, with the latter leg featuring special guests Kansas, as well as Jefferson Starship on select dates.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees also have UK and European shows lined up for the autumn, including a special performance at London's Royal Albert Hall on November 25, returning to the iconic venue where in 1969 they made history as the first rock band to premiere a full classical composition with an orchestra. Additional concerts are also scheduled in South America and Mexico in December. Tickets are on sale now.
