The Festivals - Stereoboard Tour of the Week

OK, so this isn't really a tour and some of us may have only just recovered from our hangovers after this year's outing to one or more summer events. However, festival season is a pretty important time on the musical calendar and, as the line-up news is starting to fly in and the earlybird tickets are about to go onsale, here at Stereoboard we're preparing ourselves for next year's summer rock excursion before the year has even begun and before we've even scraped the last of the ice from our windscreens.

Well, tickets for Glasto may have already sold out, but fear not - there are plenty more to choose from and, unlike that well-known Somerset mudfest in June, many of them are already beginning to let the cat out of the bag on their line-ups. Let's have a look at the choices so far:

T IN THE PARK - 8-10 July Balado, Kinross-shire
Yes, everyone's favourite Scottish festival, and undoubtedly one of the most popular of the year, is back for its 18th year. After this year's event, which featured no less than eight stages and some of the year's biggest acts including headliners Muse, Eminem and Kasabian, what can people expect from the big T? Well, so far they've opted to keep things fairly quiet on the line-up front, although they did let slip that next year's big bill-topper with be Dave Grohl's one and only Foo Fighters, who will be celebrating the release of their seventh album. There's also a rumour going around that punkers Blink 182 might be following up 2010's huge comeback performances at Reading and Leeds with another headlining set at T In The Park 2011. However, you'll have to keep checking back with Stereoboard to find out whether the rumours are true.

ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL - 10-12 June Isle of Wight
2010's event celebrated 40 years since the Isle of Wight stage was graced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Who and The Doors at the legendary festival. Now, the new organisers are making preparations for next year's weekend and things are well under way. The big headliner is confirmed to be... Foo Fighters. Yes, with both Isle of Wight and T In The Park already in the bag along with their massive Milton Keynes gigs, 2011 is set to be a big year for Foo Fighters. However, let's not let them overshadow some of the other great bands on the bill. One of the biggest announcements is that Pulp will be reforming and Isle of Wight is already on their schedule. The other headliners are Kasabian and Kings of Leon and The Script, Plan B and Jeff Beck are also among the confirmed acts so far.

ImageV FESTIVAL - 20-21 August Weston Park, Staffs/Hylands Park, Chelmsford
No news yet on any of the artists playing at this one, but bearing in mind the success of previous years, it's unlikely that they will disappoint. Earlybird tickets are due to go onsale at 12 noon on Thursday 9th December for both events, so check back with Stereoboard then to find out how to get hold of some.

READING AND LEEDS - 26-28 August
How exactly can you follow the likes of Guns n' Roses, The Libertines and Blink 182? It's going to be difficult, but they've managed it before. Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait to find out, but thankfully, you don't have to wait for tickets as they're onsale now.

DOWNLOAD - Donington Park 10-12 June
More reunions? That's right, after four years of "Where the hell are they?" System of a Down are back and they're headlining the world's biggest proper rock festival - Download. Rob Zombie and Avenged Sevenfold have also been confirmed but, following the news that Linkin Park will be one of the other headliners, we're still awaiting the third and final announcement. Will it match up to 2010's bill-toppers AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine and Aerosmith? Here's hoping.

SONISPHERE - Knebworth 8-10 July Knebworth
Crikey! If one heavy rock festival wasn't enough, here's a second. And guess who's headlining? Only the biggest metal band in the world Slipknot and the biggest rock band in the country Biffy Clyro. You lucky, lucky people. Tickets onsale from Friday 10th December.
