Sassy pop-singer Katy Perry and comedian/actor Russell Brand have announced they are to split after fourteen months of marriage.
After meeting at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009, the couple married in an extravagant ceremony in India last year. Talk began almost instantly about how long the marriage would last as the pair's careers meant they very rarely spent time together. The split comes after the the two spent Christmas apart, Brand in Cornwall, UK, and Perry in Santa Barbara, California.
Revealing the split, 36-year-old Russell Brand tweeted: “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
No further details have been revealed by Brand and Perry but irreconcilable differences have been cited as the reason for the split in divorce papers filed in LA yesterday.
Russell Brand has recently established himself as a Hollywood actor after gaining success with his autobiography. Katy Perry hit the spotlight in 2008 with the release of her popular second single 'I Kissed A Girl'. She has since gone on to score a run of Number One singles.
