Metallica's Lars Ulrich 'Shocked' And 'Crushed' By Lou Reed's Death

Thursday, 31 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Lars Ulrich - drummer of thrash metal titans Metallica - says he has been left ‘shocked’ and ‘crushed’ by the news of Lou Reed’s death.

The iconic sticksman and his band collaborated with Reed on ‘Lulu’ back in 2011. Now, speaking to the Guardian, Ulrich has spoken of his pain following Reed's death.

“We had communicated about a month ago when we were going to come by New York. Lou was going to come to the show and hang out. He didn’t make it because his health took a turn for the worse, so I knew things were not good, but I didn’t know it was that serious. So I was half shocked and half crushed – shocked that he went so quickly and crushed over the loss.”

Tributes to the Reed have been pouring in from fans and musicians alike - Arctic Monkeys recently paid homage by performing his hit Walk On The Wild Side on tour. Check our coverage here.
