Paul McCartney Announces New Studio Album 'McCartney III'

Wednesday, 21 October 2020 Written by Laura Johnson

Paul McCartney has announced a new studio album.

'McCartney III' will arrive on December 11 and was written, produced and composed by the Beatles legend. He hadn't planned on putting out a new record this year, but during the coronavirus lockdown found himself creating it without meaning to. He recorded it earlier this year in Sussex and it features mostly live vocal, guitar and piano takes, with McCartney having overdubbed his bass playing and drumming later.

Some of the tracks were recorded with gear from his Rude Studio that was used in the 1971 Wings sessions. Others feature a variety of vintage instruments, including a mellotron from Abbey Road Studios that was used by the Beatles for their recordings, Bill Black of Elvis Presley's original trio's double bass, and McCarteny's own iconic Hofner violin bass, among others.

Check out a teaser trailer for the album below. It will arrive 50 years on from his debut solo LP, 'McCartney', and 40 years following 'McCartney II'. His last studio album, meanwhile, was 2018's 'Egypt Station'.
