The Lathums have shared a new single, Long Shadows.
The raw, emotionally-charged track serves as the latest preview of the Wigan indie band's third album, 'Matter Does Not Define', due out on March 7.
Recorded in one single take, it shows off the personal, introspective songwriting from frontman Alex Moore and follows on from the previously unveiled cuts from the record Stellar Cast and No Direction. Moore commented:
"Long Shadows is a song about deep emotional struggle and the complexities of love. I'm expressing feelings of despair, isolation, and fear of change after losing love, evoking a sense of tragic suffering. Despite the darkness, we recognise love’s enduring presence, though it casts long shadows over our life.
"The song explores the dual nature of love and its ability to both heal and hurt. Through metaphors of light, shadow, and transcendence, we find hope in embracing vulnerability and seeks freedom through love."
Head below to check out the song's stirring accompanying video, directed by James Slater. On the clip, the band said: "For the music video of Long Shadows, we set out to create more than just a video – we wanted to craft a short film. Our goal was to capture the essence of the song by making it feel like it was shot in a single take, reflecting the raw emotion of the studio session where the vocals were recorded in one and only take. This is a story about vulnerability, healing, and the courage to embrace both the light and darkness within us. A massive thank you to James Slater and his incredible team for truly understanding the heart of the lyrics and bringing our vision to life."
The four-piece will support the follow-up to 2023's 'From Nothing To A Little Bit More' with their previously scheduled Matter Does Not Define Tour of the UK and Europe in the spring.
