Robbie Williams has announced a new studio album.
'BRITPOP' will arrive through Columbia Records in the autumn, though a release date is still to be confirmed. It marks a return to the more guitar-led sound showcased by the superstar after departing Take That in the mid-'90s, with its title paying homage to the Britpop era that has inspired his career. He explained:
"I set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995. It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British Music. I’ve worked with some of my heroes on this album; it’s raw, there are more guitars and it’s an album that’s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual. There’s some ‘Brit’ in there and there’s certainly some ‘pop’ too - I’m immensely proud of this as a body of work and I’m excited for fans to hear this album. I also can’t wait to perform a song or two from it on my upcoming ‘BRITPOP’ tour, which I’m opening in the UK, naturally."
To coincide with the announcement, Williams has shared the first single from the record, Rocket, a collaboration with heavy metal pioneer Tony Iommi. Written by Williams, Iommi, Karl Brazil and Tom Longworth, the high-energy rocker serves up a guitar solo from the Black Sabbath legend alongside driving drums and an anthemic chorus. The song's accompanying video will premiere on Friday (May 23).
Williams' BRITPOP Tour will kick off next weekend with a performance at Edinburgh's Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium on May 31. The stadium trek, which was originally titled Robbie Williams Live 2025, will also visit Newcastle, London, Manchester, Bath and Dublin, before dates in various European countries. Tickets are on sale now.
His last standard studio album, 'The Heavy Entertainment Show', arrived back in 2016. Since then, he put out a festive record, 'The Christmas Present', in 2019, 'XXV', a compilation of re-worked and orchestrated tracks from his 25 years in music, in 2022, and more recently, 'Better Man: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack', which accompanied his 2024 musical biopic.
Meanwhile, Iommi, will reunite with the other original members of Black Sabbath this summer for their first performance together in 20 years. Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward will perform a special concert billed as Back To The Beginning on July 5 at Birmingham's Villa Park. It will see Ozzy play his own set before joining Sabbath for what will be his final performance, alongside a huge line-up including Metallica, Tool, Guns N' Roses, and Slayer. Tickets are on sale now.
