Following her success as a member of Little Mix, many expected big things from JADE as a solo artist. Her debut album ‘That’s Showbiz Baby!’ doesn’t just meet those expectations, it exceeds them in every way. Pushing back against the difficulties of going it alone, this is loud, powerful and innovative pop music.
The album kicks off with her calling card single Angel Of My Dreams, which uses a sample of Sandie Shaw’s Puppet on a String to kick off a winding, unpredictable hit. JADE’s voice is powerful during its ballad sections, before a seamless transition into a heavy R&B beat. Experimental and perfectly delivered — slay.
It Girl changes the mood with delicious vocals over an irresistible dance-pop rhythm that highlights her musical journey from Little Mix to now.
The production, from collaborators including Mike Sabath, Grades and Lostboy, is immaculate throughout. Every section flows, reflecting JADE’s adherence to a lyrical theme based around the difficulties of the music industry. “Clause in the contract, contract gone,” she sings.
Plastic Box is raw and real, its classic synth-pop elements allowing JADE to air her feelings and insecurities around her relationship. “I know we're good, but I'm constantly comparing myself,” she sings. Entirely relatable and musically rich, it captures the power of a brilliant debut. With ‘That’s Showbiz Baby!’, JADE has made her mark.
