The Orielles have laid out plans for their fourth studio album.
The follow-up to 2022's 'Tableau' is titled 'Only You Left' and will arrive through Heavenly Recordings on March 13. Recorded in Hamburg and on the Greek Island of Hydra with producer and long-time collaborator Joel Anthony Patchett, it finds the Manchester trio expanding on the experimentation of their last LP while embracing the more stripped-back approach of earlier releases.
"You’ve got to die and be reborn between albums," commented guitarist Henry Wade. "It comes naturally," added singer and bassist Esmé Hand-Halford,"it’s not something we consciously do."
"Joel brings an extra level of interpretation and deep listening, and it’s always exciting to explore that," continued Wade.
"He's constantly talking us through every step of what he's doing and getting us really, really involved with that process as well,” explained drummer Sidonie Dee Hand-Halford. "And we're just kind of learning together and making these mistakes and discovering things together."
To coincide with the announcement, the band have shared the record's lead single and opening track, Three Halves, which serves up a dreamy blend of art-pop and psych-rock with hazy guitars. They explained:
"Citing ideas that we took interest in during the early stages of writing the new record, Three Halves flips between its absurd contrasts as the name suggests. Built upon a soundscape of droning organs, guitar, and cello it floats between noise and emptiness, precision, and catharsis, welcoming each half leads into the next."
The Orielles will support the LP with a UK tour during Independent Venue Week in January and February, following appearances at Brighton's Mutations Festival, Bristol's Simple Things Festival, and several dates supporting English Teacher this November. Tickets are on sale now.
