The New Pornographers have announced their 10th studio album.
'The Former Site Of' will arrive through Merge Records on March 27, following up 2023's 'Continue As A Guest'. It was first crafted by frontman A.C. Newman in his home studio before being developed with the band, which is completed by Kathryn Calder, Neko Case, John Collins, Todd Fancey and Charley Drayton, who replaces Joe Seiders on drums — Seiders was fired after his conviction on child pornography charges. Josh Wells will handle drums for the band's spring tour. Newman said:
"Having time in my studio really opened things up. I don’t like wasting my bandmates’ time, and always felt guilty when I’d give them a song, ask them to do something, then completely change the song and ask them to do it again. Now I can get the skeleton of a song together first - just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible - before bringing it to the band and running from there."
Alongside the announcement, the Canadian supergroup have shared a new single, Votive, which builds around Newman's mandolin with atmospheric synths, keyboards and a hooky refrain from Newman and keyboardist-vocalist Calder. Head below to view the animated video by Michael Arthur.
The album will also include the band's earlier single Ballad Of The Last Payphone, released in April last year.
They'll support the LP with a previously scheduled US tour in April and May, featuring support from Will Sheff of Okkervil River. Tickets are on sale now.
