Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil Sets Fire to Guitar for Reading Fest Headline Slot

Monday, 26 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Biffy Clyro made their first ever headline performances at Reading and Leeds Festival this weekend - and frontman Simon Neil played so well, his guitar burst into flames.

Well, not quite - the singer and guitarist was so happy with closing the massive Reading Festival after headlining Leeds’ opening night, he set fire to his guitar with a flare after finishing off the band’s set (he jumped the gun a bit - the band came back for a three song encore just after!).

Having been gifted some of the best set-times of the two festivals, the band kept thousands upon thousands of fans enthralled for a hefty performance which featured a career-spanning selection of tracks, featuring 2002 single ‘57’ and Top 20 2013 track ‘Black Chandelier’.

At the end of their set - post-guitar-fire - the band performed their supermassive hit ‘Mountains’ to a thunderous crowd sing-along, with bass-player James Johnston telling the crowd:

“Thank you so much. You don't know how much this means to us. We hope you've had fun. We've probably had the best night of our lives."

Neil added:

"No doubt about that. We've waited our whole lives for this. Once again, we're Biffy fucking Clyro. You're Rea-fucking-ding.”
