Gorillaz Drop Surprise EP 'Meanwhile' Featuring AJ Tracey, Alicá Harley, Barrington Levy And More

Friday, 27 August 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Gorillaz have dropped a surprise EP, 'Meanwhile'.

The three-song collection serves as a homage to Notting Hill Carnival and West London, home to the band's Kong Studios. It comprises cuts Déjà Vu with Jamaica-born, London-based dancehall artist Alicaì Harley, Jimmy Jimmy featuring Ladbroke Grove's AJ Tracey, and its title track, a collaboration with Jelani Blackman and Barrington Levy.

The title of the release comes from Meanwhile Gardens, the site of the first Gorillaz live performance in 2000. Frontman 2D said: "Meanwhile Gardens are just round the corner from Memory Lane. If you get to Crawley you've gone too far."

It arrives as part of the group's 20th anniversary celebrations, with Gorillaz previously revealing details of an album reissue campaign. Their latest LP, the guest-heavy 'Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez', was released in October 2020.

'Meanwhile' tracklist:

1. Meanwhile (featuring Jelani Blackman with Barrington Levy)
2. Jimmy Jimmy (featuring AJ Tracey)
3. Déjà Vu (featuring Alicaì Harley - live from NW10)
