Nell Mescal is back with a new single, Carried Away.
Produced by Philip Weinrobe, who's worked with Adrianne Lenker and Billie Marten, the folky indie-pop song marks the rising Irish artist's first studio release for Atlantic Records, and follows up her 2024 debut EP, 'Can I Miss It For A Minute?'. She said:
"It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a tumultuous relationship with and being disappointed by their answer. Instead of saying they love you back, they say they just got carried away."
Commenting on the recording sessions in Brooklyn, New York, she continued: "The demo of this vs the finished product is so different and it was so exciting to create in the studio. I played it with just me and a guitar for the band and after playing it once everyone joined in and it immediately became clear the direction we were headed in. Philip had some amazing ideas. We thought about doing a lyric change in the second pre chorus and he had the entire band play the same section over and over again while I wrote as quickly as possible…and it really elevated the song."
"I’m beyond excited for what’s to come and this new music," said Mescal. "I have a bunch of new tracks that I’ve just completed and will be announced very soon. I’ll be playing more festivals this summer and working on a run of headline shows for you all later in the year."
